Carly Geanolous is a science specialist at the Northwest Arkansas Education Services Cooperative. Carly started her teaching career in Siloam Springs, teaching 5th grade math and science for four years before moving to a 6th grade science classroom for an additional two years. During her six years of teaching, she completed a Master’s degree in School Leadership and Management Administration and a second degree in Curriculum Administration from the University of Central Arkansas. As a specialist, she has an incredible opportunity to support science teachers across Northwest Arkansas and make a meaningful impact on science education to engage students in high levels of thinking and sense-making in the world around them. Carly works primarily with middle and secondary teachers, but additionally with her STEM partner, Jenny Gammill, in K-4. Creating a culture where students are given opportunities to make sense of the world around them begins with the teacher. As a specialist, Carly encourages teachers to get their students out of the textbook and engage in the science and engineering practices to question phenomena and make sense of it through their own investigations.
