Registration is now open for the summer 2025 eeCourse, Environmental Education in Your Community. AEEA offers eeCourses as a flexible and affordable option for gaining skills, knowledge, and professional development hours. eeCourses are moderated, online courses designed to be primarily asynchronously with a few scheduled Zoom discussions.

Environmental Education in Your Community

This course is designed to help you anchor environmental aims within the context of community interests, issues, and capacities. The course focuses on Key Characteristic 1 of the North American Association for Environmental Education’s Guidelines for Excellence: Community Engagement. This course should take approximately 10-14 hours to complete.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify a community that they are interested in interacting with and begin to investigate this community using appropriate investigation tools.
  • List and explain the different aspects of community well-being including related environmental issues that could potentially benefit from EE.
  • Identify partners and allies within the community that are already addressing or have the potential to address related environmental and sustainability issues.
  • Investigate community priorities that relate to their organization’s priorities that can be effectively addressed through EE.
  • Work with appropriate community organizations in order to involve a broader community through a variety of outreach methods.
