The Arkansas Environmental Education Association (AEEA), the statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to the advocacy for multi-disciplinary environmental education, announces that the 2021 Awards for Outstanding Environmental Educators is open for nominations. The deadline to submit is June 18, 2021.

“Over the past year and looking at the challenges faced by society, we are reminded of just how important and far-reaching environmental education really can be. Whether it is inside classrooms, on hiking trails, through everyday awareness and habits, or even in our own backyards, the lessons we learn are invaluable at any age. If an educator or outreach professional has made a difference in how you and your family experience and conserve the natural wonders of our great state, nominate them,” said AEEA Executive Director Sophia Stephenson.

AEEA recognizes three award honors:

  • Outstanding Environmental Educator – Formal Education
The nominee must be an Arkansas Pre-K, elementary, secondary or college educator who incorporates environmental education as a main focus in their curriculum. The nominee should influence students, school, or community in environmental education, awareness, knowledge, and action.
  • Outstanding Environmental Educator – Non-Formal Education
The nominee must be an Arkansas educator performing in a non-formal setting. Non-formal settings include, but are not limited to nature centers, parks, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies which provide education and outreach programs. The nominee should exhibit personal and professional commitment to environmental education and have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the field.
  • The Robert McAfee Environmental Education Service Award
The nominee must be an Arkansan who has exhibited personal and professional commitment to environmental education, service, awareness, knowledge, and action throughout their career and life. The nominee should exemplify the values and mission of AEEA.
