November 15, noon – 4 pm Central Arkansas Main Library (5th Floor) The City of Little Rock Sustainability Office and The Green Corner Store have partnered with Central Arkansas Library System to highlight ways each of us can be more sustainable. The event is free and open to the public. We are looking forward to bringing together community members, nonprofits, students and businesses who are passionate about building a more sustainable future. This is a great opportunity to connect with organizations supporting sustainability in central Arkansas. The highlight of the day will be a special screening of the documentary ReUse! Because You Can’t Recycle the Planet, followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker. The film begins at 1:30 pm. Free, no registration required. This will be a combined Project Learning Tree and Project WET workshop for both formal and non-formal educators interested in learning hands-on activities to use with a variety of ages. ONSC will be hosting this workshop at the Lake Fayetteville location, where Ozark forests grow right up next to a small lake, right in the middle of urban Northwest Arkansas. The workshop focuses on activities for grades 3rd-6th. However activities are easily adjustable, and educators of other ages are welcome to attend. Participants will receive Project Learning Tree’s Explore Your Environment (K-8th grade) and Project WET’s Foundations of Water Literacy (K-12th grade) activity guides. The guidebooks are high-quality instructional materials containing dozens of hands-on activities correlated to state and national education frameworks. Project Learning Tree Project WET *This workshop qualifies for six hours of ADE-approved professional development. Participants should bring a water bottle and packed lunch. Helps students learn about our natural and created environment, and understand their roles and responsibilities within it. PLT teaches about trees, forests, wildlife, water, recycling, climate science, and green careers.
Inspires students to respect our precious water resources and to understand the importance of sound water management. Activities focus on the biological, chemical and physical aspects of water.
