October 25-27, 2024
Holiday Inn – Little Rock Airport Conference Center

The Inland Bird Banding Association and Arkansas Audubon Society announce a call for
abstracts for presentations at their joint annual meeting in Little Rock, Arkansas from October
25-27, 2024. 100+ attendees are expected from across Arkansas and the IBBA region.
Information on previous meetings can be found at Annual Meeting – IBBA
(inlandbirdbanding.org) and Arkansas Audubon Society Conventions (arbirds.org).

TOPICS
The theme of this year’s meeting is “Inspiring the Next Generation of Bird Conservationists.”
We would like to hear from researchers, educators, and others who strive to inspire the next
generation of young people willing to take on the hard work necessary to continue avian
conservation in the future. Thus although our focus is on presentations that discuss
incorporating bird conservation into education, we also encourage presentations that discuss
original research incorporating bird-banding or other bird-marking techniques and other bird
conservation related topics.

CONTENT and FORMATS
Submissions should fall into one of three formats: oral presentation, poster presentation, and
banding-related presentation. The meeting will be organized such that sessions for the 3 types
of presentations do not overlap. Oral and poster sessions will be in the hotel meeting room and
the banding related demonstrations will take place at the nearby Audubon Center. Awards will
be presented for the best oral presentation and the best poster presentation by a student/new
professional.

Oral presentations should be 15 minutes in length, including a 3-minute Q&A period.
Presentations should be prepared in MS PowerPoint in a format suitable for large meeting
room projection. Although adherence to the standard scientific presentation format is
preferred (introduction, methods, results, discussion), alternative formats are welcome. For
example, demonstration of an innovative educational activity or game used to illustrate bird
conservation concepts may be considered.

Poster presentations should be at least 3ft x 4ft but no more than 4ft x 5ft (either landscape or
portrait orientation is acceptable) and be printed on foam board suitable for wall mounting. As
with oral presentations, the standard scientific format is preferred but not mandatory. A good guide for poster presentation preparation can be found here https://ohiostate.pressbooks.pub/scientificposterguide/chapter/scientific-posters/.

Banding-related presentations can be demonstrations of tips, techniques, or tools that would
be of interest to other banders. For example, an innovative net deployment system, a tool used
to easily observe brood patch condition, or a color-coding scheme used to navigate the depths
of Pyle would all be appropriate.

SUBMISSIONS and DATES
Potential presenters should send the completed submission form to
swgabrey@inlandbirdbanding.org before September 10, 2024. The Presentation Committee
will review all submissions and base acceptance on the following considerations: 1) the topic is
relevant to the meeting theme; 2) the presentation will be of interest to the audience, and 3)
the abstract indicates a quality presentation (clear and concise writing, proper grammar and
punctuation, etc.). Letters of acceptance/denial will be emailed by September 21, 2024, to all
submitters.
